Local Area
Southwold is a great place to enjoy a traditional seaside holiday with the backdrop of jaunty beach huts, the landmark lighthouse, and the pier. Read the fascinating plaques along the pier railings, watch the clock perform, and see the seafront from a different angle. In the town itself there are interesting shops to browse, tea-rooms and museums, and events throughout the year including the seasonal Summer Theatre.
If you wish to explore this Heritage Coast further there is wildlife-rich National Trust land with SeaWatch lookout (and tea-room) on Dunwich cliffs and also the RSPB's reserve at Minsmere (and tea room). Busy Aldeburgh and Snape have a long association with festivals and concerts. Delightful Walberswick is on the other side of the River Blyth at Southwold harbour and is easily reached by either footbridge or foot-ferry (in season - see website for details of the ferry). There are many other attractions if you wish to get out and about.
Inland there is gently rolling countryside criss-crossed by well-marked footpaths. Open areas of common land invite the walker as do the many Suffolk Wildlife Trust nature reserves.
The area has much to offer throughout the year.
